AVID Roots here presents two classic Howlin'Wolf albums and two classic Muddy Waters albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. 'Howlin' Wolf: Moanin' in the Moonlight'; 'Howlin' Wolf'; 'Muddy Waters: Sings Big Bill Broonzy' and 'Muddy Waters: At Newport'. Two giants of blues share the spotlight for this release in our Avid Roots series. At nearly 300 pounds and standing well over 6 feet tall, Chester Burnett, aka. Howlin' Wolf was certainly a giant both physically and musically! Our two chosen albums were effectively early compilations of the time, consisting of many sides recorded by Wolf between 1951 and 1962. Included are many of his most famous songs and their influence on the story of music cannot be overestimated! Just listen to sides like Smokestack Lightnin', Evil, How Many More Years, Forty Four, Red Rooster, Spoonful, the list is endless and you will witness the beginnings of rock music in the sixties and seventies The story is well known but always exciting to hear again, how these fabulously larger than life blues men enthralled the likes of Alexis Korner, Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton to name but a few, who then went on to export the blues back to the USA in the form of rock and roll and kick start the story of rock (say a big thank you Wolf, Captain Beefheart and Lowell George to name but two!). Another major influence on the story of rock was McKinley Morganfield, aka Muddy Waters. Here we feature two of his early albums 'Sings Big Bill Broonzy' and 'At Newport'. We shall leave the last word to Big Bill Broonzy, another bluesman to hit the UK and become a major star... talking about Muddy... 'that man could really sing the blues, I mean the country wide open blues... he 'aint like those pretty boy singers who dress up the blues... Muddy's a real singer of the blues'. All four albums have been digitally re-mastered.
